Geographical position: Afghanistan is the country in the South-west Asia, it borders by Iran, Pakistan, India, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

State system: Republic. 27.09.1996 the international-recognized government of Afghanistan headed by B.Rabbani, was overthrown by the armed forces of 'Taliban' movement. Now the Russian Federation government recognizes as lawful only B.Rabbani's government. In the United Nations and the Organization Islamic Conference the question of the country representation is postponed to uncertain time. The legislative system does not function since June 1993. Legal institutes do not function since March 1995.

Climate: The climate is continental, dry. The average temperature of January on plains changes from 0° up to -8° C, in high mountains places is lower - 20° C, in July accordingly from +24° C up to +32° C and from 0° C up to +1° C. Precipitations are 200 - 400 mm per year, in mountains - up to 800 mm per year.

Miscellaneous: The capital, the ancient city Kabul (1,4 million people), is favourably located on the crossroads of the important transport ways. Other large city - Mazar-e Sharif is for a long time known as the centre of handicraft manufacture and trade with the colourful East market; ancient Herat is the oasis and the cultural centre where in XV century was erected gigantic mosque Juma-Masdjid.
