- Geographical position:
In the North Iran is washed by the Caspian Sea, in the South - by the Persian and Oman Gulfs. It borders by Turkey (in the North-west), Afghanistan and Pakistan (in the East), Iraq (in the West), and also by Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan (in the North).
- State system:
The head of the state is Ayatollah, the leader of the Islamic revolution (since 4.06.1989 the head of the state is Ali Hoseini Khamenei). Ayatollah is elected for life term. The legislature is one-chamber Assembly of Islamic Council - Majles (290 seats, at the elections of 2000 the number of seats was reduced to 270 seats).

In the major part of the country the climate is continental, in the coast of the Caspian Sea - subtropical, in the coast of Oman and Persian Gulfs - tropical, with a minute amount of precipitations and high 'hothouse' air humidity. On the plateau of Iran the precipitations amount does not exceed 100-200 mm per year, in some deserted internal areas it does not precipitate for several years.
